Dr. Wartan is a consultant in Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia at Aneurin Bevan University hospitals in Wales and is one of a few consultants who practice Pain Medicine full time . She has trained in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine at Guy's and St.Thomas' Hospitals in London where she also researched phantom limb and neuropathic pain. Dr. Wartan is active in teaching, training and education and has established the advanced pain medicine training programme in Aneurin Bevan University Hospitals. She has served as the local pain medicine educational supervisor for 15 years as well as the clinical lead of the pain services. She has published widely and have fifteen peer reviewed publications wining 2 national prizes for research and work at Guy’s Hospital Pain Medicine Unit. Dr. Wartan has established and runs the only multidisciplinary and multi-professional pelvic pain management clinic in Wales. She has special interest in the management of Endometriosis pain and is involved in writing a book about the condition. She has been an invited speaker at various national and international conferences including Gynaecology scientific meetings. She is an active member of various societies and invited advisor on pain medicine issues in Wales. Dr. Wartan practices evidence based medicine involving comprehensive history taking and thorough examination to achieve patient centred and individually tailored management plan of the pain condition and its impact on the individual's quality of life. She is an expert in a wide ranging treatment modalities including medications, non-surgical methods of pain relief and pain management procedures.
