At Janssen I lead the global J&J Neuroscience Discovery and Translation teams seeking novel therapies for Neurodegeneration and Neuropsychiatry, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, Major Depression, Schizophrenia and other disorders. Finding effective treatments for these areas of huge unmet need will draw on the tremendous expertise in J&J and with partners around the world in drug development, clinical trials, biomarkers, informatics and beyond. It will require innovation, dedication and collaboration. There are few challenges in medicine today more deserving of our energies and focus. I retain a part-time position at the University of Oxford as Professor of Translational Neuroscience working with outstanding colleagues in disciplines ranging from neurodegeneration and neuroscience through drug development and therapeutics to computer science and the use of Big Data. My own research interests are in translational research in neurodegeneration; seeking new targets for therapy in Alzheimer's disease through understanding of basic mechanisms, in disease modification trials and experimental medicine and in the search for biomarkers for early diagnosis. I am a Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist with a special interest in dementia, have undergraduate degrees in basic science and medicine and a PhD in basic neuroscience and MPhil in clinical research psychiatry.
