Dr Simon Kennon works in private practice at the Cleveland Clinic London and the Kings Oak Hospital. In the NHS he is based at the Barts Heart Centre and also works at the Royal Free and Barnet Hospitals. He qualified from Manchester Medical School in 1992. He completed general medical training in and around London (Royal Free Hospital, Southend General Hospital, Newham General Hospital and the London Chest Hospital) before training in general & interventional cardiology at St Bartholomew’s and the London Chest Hospitals. His training continued with a fellowship in interventional cardiology at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia. Dr Kennon is experienced in the management of all general cardiology conditions (including palpitations, high blood pressure, high cholesterol) but his special interests are the assessment and treatment of chest pain and aortic valve disease; in particular the treatment of coronary artery disease and aortic stenosis. Colleagues often refer complicated cases to him for second opinions. He is an experienced TAVI operator having set up and led the TAVI programme at the London Chest Hospital and is now head of structural heart disease research at the Barts Heart Centre which has the largest TAVI programme in the UK. He is also an interventional cardiologist performing coronary interventions in both elective and emergency settings. Dr Kennon was appointed editor-in-chief of ‘Interventional Cardiology Review’, a thrice yearly journal published by Radcliffe Cardiology (see www.radcliffecardiology.com), in January 2014. The journal publishes review articles written by experienced and eminent cardiologists generally reviewing available research data on a particular issue as well as providing practical clinical and procedural advice. His research interests include TAVI, aortic valve disease and acute coronary syndromes, about which he has published many scientific papers. He lectures at national and international meetings and has performed coronary angioplasty live for training purposes at international meetings both in Europe and America (EuroPCR, TCT). In his free time he plays squash, runs, skis, reads (history, wine) and provides a remarkably efficient taxi service for his children.
