www.gilbody.org Thought leader in population mental health || My clinical training is in medicine, psychiatry and cognitive behavioural therapy [CBT]. I am Professor of Psychiatric Epidemiology at the University of York & Foundation Professor of Psychological Medicine at the Hull York Medical School [HYMS]. Research leader || In 2005 I founded the York Mental Health & Addictions Research Group (MHARG). We deliver an international trials and evidence synthesis programme to examine 'what works' (and what is cost effective) in combating depression, anxiety & loneliness. Our research informs patient care and mental health policy worldwide. Elected Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences [FMedSc 2023] and awarded a higher Doctorate [DSc, York 2022] for my research and leadership. Tackling the epidemic of loneliness || During the COVID-19 pandemic I led an urgent public health research programme to combat depression and loneliness in older people. The results of the COVID-19 Behavioural Activation for Social Isolation [BASIL C-19] trials & living systematic reviews have generated new insights into how to combat loneliness. We harness brief & scalable strategies to activate social networks & activities. #EndLoneliness Lifecourse epidemiology || I lead the mental health research programme in the worlds largest multi-ethic birth cohort, Born in Bradford. This project is funded by the Wellcome Trust. In coming years this will generate new understanding into how mental health difficulties can be prevented. #BorninBradford Where next? || I am keen to harness and transfer knowledge to improve mental health. I will work with NHS, 3rd sector & commercial partners. Our work is co-produced with users and carers. www.gilbody.org
