My name is Shawn Simek, MD, and I am a clinical assistant professor in the division of cardiovascular medicine. I was inspired to be a doctor by my very early desire to help others, and I specialized in cardiology because I find the physiology of the cardiovascular system and the diversity of cardiac imaging tools fascinating. My specific interests include non-invasive cardiac imaging to diagnose and evaluate progression of valvular heart disease and coronary artery disease.I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Florida, and my medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. I completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where I also completed a cardiology fellowship and served as the chief fellow. I have expertise in the following areas: valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia.I enjoy spending time with my family, as well as outdoor activities including hiking, cycling, kayaking and camping.
