Dr Shaharyar Alikhan is a Consultant Psychiatrist with over two decades of experience within medicine, specialising in general psychiatry and substance misuse psychiatry for adults. He currently practises within Cygnet Healthcare and holds a Medical Director role; private appointments are at the HealthWise Leeds Therapy Centre. He treats general conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and post traumatic stress disorder. Shaharyar is also an expert witness for the courts and an approved clinician/Section 12 doctor in terms of the Mental Health Act 1983. He has previously held the role of Medical Lead for the West Locality Community Mental Health Teams in Leeds. Dr Alikhan gained his medical degree from the University of Bristol Medical School in 1999, after which he undertook his Basic and Higher Specialist training in psychiatry throughout Leeds and Birmingham. During this period, Shaharyar gained Membership with the Royal College of Psychiatrists and undertook various in house roles within psychiatry to aid in his specialist training. He gained specialist accreditation in 2008 and has been practising psychiatryu as a Consultant ever since. In addition to these qualifications, Shaharyar also gained a Masters degree in Mental Health Law at the University of Northumbria. With his vast knowledge regarding mental health and over 20 years experience, Dr Alikhan has worked with patients from a variety of backgrounds, with a range of mental health issues. He also stays up to date with the latest and most effective psychiatric practices, as he is in good standing for Continuing Professional Development with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, regularly attending update training courses and events.
