I have experience working in both community and hospital pharmacy. Currently, I am working as a Band 8 oncology pharmacist for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. Before this, I was working as a Band 7 clinical pharmacist on the surgical wards at South Tees Hospital. During this time, I have managed a elective orthopaedic ward, a general surgical ward and a small 6-bedded intensive care unit. I supervised and educated the band 6 pharmacists and pre-registration students that rotated on my wards. My communication and organisational skills have grown exponentially since being appointed this position. As a Band 6, I have rotated through cardiology, surgery (including critical care), general medicine, care of the elderly and medical admissions unit. Before I qualified as a pharmacist, I worked at Lloyd's pharmacy as a pre-registration student, summer student and a relief dispenser. I gained knowledge of over the counter medicines and patient consultations. I am passionate about education and training. I have taken opportunities available to me to supervise and train band 6 and pre-registration pharmacists. Also, I created a booklet for band 6 pharmacists to guide them through their rotations. This booklet was highly commended by the managers and band 8 pharmacists in the Trust. Currently, I am writing a book that aims to be a useful resource for anyone wanting to or practising hospital pharmacy.
