I am an experienced Gastroenterologist, Hepatologist and endoscopist, my practice focus is to develop state of the art diagnosis & therapies for liver and gut structural/ functional disorders. I have close network relationships with units providing tertiary care avoiding delays for patients and locally have a dedicated team of dietician, hypnotherapist, psychologist, radiologist and surgeons as part of a patient focussed MDT. I am Head of gastrointestinal research in North Bristol, have been in post for 21 years and when specialty lead a rapid expansion in services and personnel. Recent services developed include wireless capsule assessment for reflux (BRAVO), investigation of throat symptoms of reflux with catheter probe (RESTECH) and where appropriate endoscopic treatment of reflux with radiofrequency therapy (STRETTA). In liver disease I introduced non invasive testing of the liver with Fibroscan ten years ago, a spoke transplant clinic with Kings liver unit in Bristol and weekly videoconferencing with them, Critical flicker measurements for toxaemia in liver disease. I treat patients with biliary and pancreatic disorders with endoscopy and biliary manometry. I lead this service and receive referrals from around the UK being one of 4 such units to provide this service. All developments follow best published evidence and are often hard to access elsewhere yet provide a simpler, faster and more effective outcome for patients I see with gut and liver disease.
