I completed my undergraduate and post graduate degrees at the University of Southampton with research related to organometallic chemistry (MChem project) and spin-crossover based functional devices (PhD). Both involved synthetic laboratory work as well as analysis with a specific look into magnetic properties (SQUID) and solid state structural properties (XRD). After completing my PhD, I moved to the University of Birmingham to take up a teaching follow position in which I taught courses relating to bonding models, solid state chemistry, organometallic chemistry, electronic transitions and spin crossover. Alongside my teaching roles, I held a number of leadership roles, including director of year 4 and deputy senior admissions tutor. These roles required me to work within and lead teams to deliver guidance and tools for our year 4 cohort to develop their skills and look to their future careers and organise on campus activities to attract the next generation of chemists. My teaching and leadership skills have been recognised as a Senior Fellow by Advance HE. I set up the Leeds Academics For Academic Freedom branch in October 2023.
