Irshaad Ebrahim obtained his medical degree from the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine, South Africa. He worked as a Clinical Research Fellow with Professor Colin Shapiro in Toronto, Canada in the Department of Neuropsychiatry & Sleep Disorders at Toronto Western Hospital and subsequently returned to the UK to undertake specialist Training in Psychiatry at University College London. He undertook further specialist training in Neuropsychiatry and Sleep Disorders and Guy's King's and St. Thomas' Hospitals, London. He has postgraduate qualifications in Family Therapy, Neuropharmacology and the Neuropsychiatry of Sleep and Memory Disorders. He was the first NHS appointed Consultant Neuropsychiatrist in Sleep Disorders in the UK. This post, based at the Sleep Disorders Centre St. Thomas' Hospital, London. In 2003, he set up The London Sleep Centre, a multi-disciplinary centre providing a comprehensive service for patients with all types of sleep disorders. In 2005, he opened the Edinburgh Sleep Centre, the second multidisciplinary sleep centre in the UK. In 2005 he established Sigma Sleep Diagnostics Pty Ltd in South Africa, a comprehensive Sleep & Performance Diagnostics Company - www.sigmasleep.com. He has published in a variety of peer-reviewed publications and books. He is a member of the British Medical Association, The British Sleep Society (BSS), The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), The British Neuropsychiatry Association (BNPA), the Royal College of Psychiatrists
