As professor of Hepatology at University College London, currently leading a laboratory focused on liver failure while continuing to serve patients as a practising doctor. My hypothesis and observations led to the recognition of acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) as a distinct clinical syndrome with defined clinical, prognostic and pathophysiological characteristics, that marks the culmination of advanced chronic liver disease. I am the founder of a number of companies focused on delivering solutions to liver failure, including Yaqrit, the clinical stage biotechnology company progressing a pipeline of devices and drugs to target all stages of liver failure.
