As the CEO and Founder of Staying Safer and the Global Drug Survey (GDS), I am passionate about providing evidence-based and user-focused education, assessment, and support for people who use drugs or work with those who do. With over 20 years of experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist and Addiction Medicine Specialist, I have developed and launched innovative digital tools and research programs, such as the Global Drug Survey, The Staying Safe Program, the Stability of Opioid Dose Assessor, and the Drugs Meter apps, that aim to reduce harms, optimize treatment outcomes, and empower individuals and communities. I am also an Honorary Clinical Professor at UCL, where I conduct academic research and teach on addiction, public health, and policy. I founded GDS in 2012, which runs the world's largest survey on drug use and its effects, with over 900,000 participants and counting. I use the data from GDS to inform and influence international health and research groups, as well as to create the drugs meter and drinks meter apps, which help users monitor and manage their own consumption. I have published over 150 research papers, book chapters, and monographs, and have been an expert witness to the courts since 1999. I am a highly accomplished trainer and developer of educational programs for various stakeholders, including clinicians, police, teachers, students, and the entertainment and hospitality sector.
