I have recently accepted an Occupational Therapy lecturer post at Sheffield Hallam University, teaching largely on the Occupational Therapy programmes but also feeding into the integrated modules; educating nurses, physiotherapists, radiographers and paramedics. I previously worked in an admissions avoidance and early discharge team with acutely unwell patients over the age of 18. I’m studying on the Advancing Clinical Practice MSc pathway at Sheffield Hallam University and have to date completed the “Advanced Physical Assessment and Consultation Skills”, “Managing Minor Illness” and “Pathophysiology and Pharmacology in Advanced Management” modules. I have been trained as an integrated assessor and as such have been trained in the core assessment skills of a physiotherapist and a nurse, allowing me to carry out a fully integrated assessment of a persons needs. My extended scope skills include but are not limited to; chest auscultation, venepuncture, taking and monitoring vital signs, dysphasia screening, pressure area care, medicines management and assessing for mobility aids. I have experience of research and was recently seconded to Sheffield Hallam University to compile a research proposal aimed at testing the efficacy of the integrated assessor role. The write up of the secondment was recently published in the OT News magazine. I have extensive experience of service development, change management, supervision and training and I’m also a visiting lecturer for Sheffield Hallam University, delivering teaching to OT students on both the BSc and MSc courses. I have experience of writing reports for court cases and insurance claims and would be willing to be approached for free lance work of this nature. I am a keen and enthusiastic advocate of the OT profession and actively seek to expand my skills and the profile of the profession at any opportunity.
