Peter is Chair of Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust. In a career spanning over 30 years in the public service, Peter has undertaken a number of senior roles in the Department of Health and the NHS. He began his career as a civil servant in the Department of Health where he undertook a number of health related posts. He then joined the NHS in 1992. After working as director of operations for Camden and Islington Community Health Services Trust he moved to east London in 1995 to become chief executive of Newham Community Health Services Trust and from April 2000 East London and the City Mental Health Trust. In 2002, Peter took up post as chief executive of the newly established London Development Centre for Mental Health which was part of the National Institute for Mental Health (NIMHE). Peter took on the additional role of national director for NIMHE in 2004. In 2007 after working across five Government departments to implement recommendations to support socially excluded groups, Peter returned to the Department of Health as national director of the care services improvement partnership to lead a review of the partnership's role and functions. He has also worked with Marie Curie Cancer Care and undertaken several other consultancy assignments. From 2011 to March 2017 Peter was Chair of Medway Community Healthcare, a social enterprise providing community health services in Medway and surrounding areas. Peter is also a volunteer mediator for Maidstone Mediation Service.
