Description

Dr. Okpaleke graduated with honors from both undergrad at USF and Ross U for med school. In his young years, he graduated high school as pharmacy technician so being a pharmacist was the logical direction. This was until he learned of how primary care could allow him to influence people on a personal level, use his humor, affect people’s medical care from children to the elderly, and make an impact on a large scale that he decided being a family physician. It also helped that he volunteered heavily at free health fairs that influenced him into primary care and also creating his own nonprofit organization to help others with free health fairs and other free services like a free talk at a local domestic violence shelter. Dr. Okpaleke outside of medicine has had some interesting side hobbies. As a poet, he has written 100’s of poems which led him to write music and play/create music like the guitar with his sister/friends/alone. His humor also led him into creating videos/writing skits and even competing in a film festival. His humor is mixed into his medical practice to create a comfortable environment for his patients which is probably why he won the Patch Adams Award from his Medical school years ago. His love of teaching is what drives him to also create an environment less stressful for his coworkers. Currently, Dr. Okpaleke is part of the CME committee assisting in the teaching curriculum for the hospital. He is also working on a research project to increase efficiency and communication of physicians with the EMR and patients.
