With 20yrs experience in ophthalmology, he was appointed as a substantive NHS consultant and clinical lead for cornea at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire where he worked as a clinical personal tutor and undergraduate examiner at Warwick Medical School. More recently he has been working in full time private practice in Hampshire where he lives with his wife and young family. He was awarded a distinction in the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and Ulster University postgraduate diploma in cataract and refractive surgery (PGDipCRS) and has since been invited to become a course tutor and visiting professor. He has been awarded the Royal College of Ophthalmologists certificate of laser refractive surgery (CertLRS). He regularly presents at National and International conferences and has presented / chaired sessions at: UK and Ireland Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS); Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth) Annual Congress; European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS); American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO); Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO); European Association for Vision and Eye Research (EVER); Royal Society of Medicine (ophthalmology section). Mr Maycock is actively involved in research winning an award for recruitment to the multicentre, phase IV PERSPECTIVE Study on dry eyes. He has spent two years working in the pharmaceutical industry where he helped design and set up the global, phase III VISUAL I,II and III studies. Mr Maycock has over 35 publications and co-authored a leading textbook on corneal topography He is passionate about training the next generation of doctors and ophthalmologists. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and is a past member of their microsurgical skills training faculty. He is a past committee member of the UK and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS) Young Ophthalmologist Program (YOP).
