I have been in the medical field for almost 20 years. It was not there, however, that my journey began. I began my professional career in telecommunications sales while putting myself through school. With aspirations to go into medicine, I decided to shift my focus to what became my passion, Nursing. I started as a CNA/GNA, moved up to work as an ICU technician, and soon completed my Nursing Degree. I am now doctorally prepared with clinical certifications in both of my specialties, CNOR and CCRN, in addition to my CSSM. My experience thus far has shown me that maintaining core values such as trust, respect, and honesty are key in this profession called nursing. We must uphold the sanctity of the nurse client relationship, while balancing it with safety, service excellence, respect, and compassion. As the last line of defense for each and every client cared for, we as nurses must maintain a broad knowledge base on every aspect of client care, continually learning. I strive to do my part and make a difference in each and every patient and family member I encounter and care for. I hope to further the importance of quality over quantity. We have become a healthcare system that is more concerned about the number of clients we treat, instead of the quality of their care and overall outcomes. We must keep our vision to the goals ahead, and fight prejudices and discrimination in whatever form they may take. Each and every client regardless of background, culture, or economic status deserves and should be given the best care possible and the best chance for a long healthy life.
