Mr Michael Tappin’s main surgical interests include cornea, cataract, anterior segment, refractive laser and lens surgery. He trained at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, London before undertaking fellowships in corneal and refractive surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth, Australia. He is also a founding member and director of LaserVision, a specialist eye clinic offering the complete range of eye treatments to suit patients’ needs. All surgeons at LaserVision use the most advanced cutting-edge technology in the UK and are at the forefront of developing new techniques. Mr Tappin offers the full range of vision correction procedures as well as laser cataract surgery, a minimally invasive procedure performed using a newly developed state-of-the-art laser which eliminates the use of a blade. He also performs the new Sulcoflex DUET Lens Exchange – an adjustable solution to correct vision at all distance and the first to offer lifelong reversibility. In 2005 he became the first surgeon in the UK to perform an endothelial cell transplantation now known as DMEK. The pioneering technique is a less invasive surgery to treat fuchs dystrophy and endothelial cell failure. He also recently published a new surgical technique for the treatment of pterygium.
