Dr. Michael Shea has extensive experience in sports medicine, ranging from family practice to serving as an on-site physician for multiple sports. Born in San Jose, Dr. Shea began his collegiate studies in biology at the University of San Diego before transferring and completing his degree at Santa Clara University. He then studied medicine at American University in Coral Gables, FL, earning his doctorate. Following graduation, Dr. Shea completed residency training at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield and UPMC St. Margaret’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He then completed his fellowship in Sports Medicine at Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie, PA. Dr. Shea specializes in the non-surgical side of sports medicine, including the evaluation of fractures and orthopedic consultation. His expertise has also extended into physical rehabilitation and fitness training. He has volunteered as a physician for sports at high school and state levels, as well as being a ringside physician at boxing and kickboxing tournaments. He currently spends part of his time training second- and third-year residents in sports medicine. Dr. Shea is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Family Practice.
