Mr Dawson has an interest in soft tissue knee procedures. He performs simple arthroscopy for meniscal tears, more complex 'keyhole' surgery for an articular cartilage injury or ligament damage and complex reconstruction following sports injuries or other trauma. He performs in excess of over 50 Anterior Cruciate Ligament reconstructions annually. Instability of the knee requires consideration of the alignment of the limb and therefore, where appropriate osteotomy around the knee is combined with or in some cases replaces the need for ligament surgery. Mr Dawson has developed one of the largest UK practices in osteotomy around the knee having performed in excess of 140 procedures in the last 7 years. He performs 'double osteotomy' and in some cases combines osteotomy with ligament procedures. He contributes to an annual international masterclass as a UK faculty member where he joins internationally recognised experts. He presents the results of his osteotomy practice annually in this forum. Mr Dawson provides one of the largest unicondylar (partial) knee replacement services in the region and has now performed over 200 of these procedures. The National Joint Registry confirms his good results and inidicates that good results for this procedure are more readily attained by those performing higher volumes.
