Mr. Mark Edward Emerton is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon. He qualified in 1988 from Oxford University medical school. Following basic surgical training, be obtained his fellowship to the Royal College of Surgeons (London) in 1992.Mr. Emertons specialist orthopaedic training was at the Nuffield orthopaedic centre in Oxford. During his time there he was also a university clinical lecturer for six years including two years of specialist training in hip and knee surgery.Following this, he was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon, with a special interest in hip and knee surgery, at the Leeds General Infirmary in July 1999. Since becoming a consultant in Leeds he has spent three years as clinical director leading the development and opening of the new elective orthopaedic centre at Chapel Allerton Hospital.Mr. Emerton was the national clinical lead for hip and knee surgery at the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement until March 2007 and now work with Patient Safety First, a national campaign to improve the safety and quality of healthcare, as the clinical lead for safer surgery.
