I qualified as a pharmacist in 1997 and since then have gained experience in the community (retail), acute hospital, and primary care organisation settings. This has enabled me to understand a broad perspective of pharmacy, healthcare and prescribing matters across the breath of services and develop expertise in clinical pharmacy, therapeutics, prescribing management and commissioning. Since 2004 I have put these skills to use in front-line practice within a general (family) practice where I operate as an autonomous clinician dealing with a wide variety of presentations from cardiovascular diseases to chronic pain. Within the team I lead on clinical protocols and audit and play a part in our IT, data quality, governance and training agendas. During this time I have provided a range of services to numerous other organisations via my consultancy work, including the Royal College of General Practitioners, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, the former National Prescribing Centre, a number of universities and several pharmaceutical companies. I also work in the out of hours setting for a ground-breaking provider in the North West of England and am the Superintendent Pharmacist for the organisation. Also within the unscheduled care sphere I provide oversight to the clinical governance of NHS 111 in my role as Regional Clinical Advisor. Away from pharmacy I am passionate about wildlife and nature, especially that of Africa. I am a shareholder in Limpopo-Lipadi Private Game and Wilderness Reserve in Botswana and collaborate with others in a project to identify individual leopards from photo records gathered by camera traps and visitors to the reserve. Specialties: Therapeutics, evidence based medicine, clinical governance, urgent care, healthcare professional education, prescribing, photography
