Lwandile Tokwe is a Professional Nurse and Senior Researcher/Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Town, HIV Mental Health Research Unit. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Education (cum laude), BCur, and MCur (cum laude). He is a final-year Ph.D. candidate at Stellenbosch University (submitted). Lwandile is the Project Director of the NIH Funded Khanya R01. He has experience in both clinical and academia. He is an academic and is involved in Teaching & Learning, Academic administration and leadership, research and Community engagement/social responsiveness. He is experenced in teaching junior and senior students in the field of Gender based Violence, Communicable and Non-Communicable diseases & Nursing in the community. He completed the Teaching development Programme, Current aspects of Teaching and Learning in Health Sciences Education & Towards Professionalization of Learning and Teaching courses. He serves as guest lecturer in the preceptorship course for Nurses (2022-present) and teaches Advanced HIV Adherence & Counselling. He serves as an external moderator for research in postgraduate nursing programmes. He is actively involved in research supervision at a postgraduate level. He is a qualitative researcher, and his niche primarily lies in the field of HIV and co-morbidities in the rural PHC settings. He is registered with the South African Nursing Council as a General Nurse, Accoucheur, community health Nurse, Psychiatric Nurse, Nurse Educator, Assessor, and Moderator. Internationally, He is a global member of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care. He is published in international and national peer reviewed journals and is an expert reviewer for national and international journals in the field of HIV and qualitative research. He is a board member of Sigma Theta Tau International honor society (Alpha Beta Beta Chapter) and member of Southern African HIV clinicians society.
