Kolu S. Baysah Clark is a doctorally-prepared nurse practitioner (NP) who has worked in a variety of settings (rehabilitation, long-term care, urgent care, primary care, etc.) between her time as an RN and NP. Currently, she works at Kent Hospital At Home Program, where she works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to effectively evaluate patients and treat patient who are actually illness in the comfort of the homes. She obtained her MS and DNP from the MGH Institute of Health Professions. She developed a module to train clinicians in the use of shared-decision making (SDM), specifically for use with the VA Nursing Academy Partnership (VANAP) program at the WRJ-VAMC. Since the completion of her DNP, she has worked with Dr. Brant Oliver and his research team in conducting research in SDM as it applies to Multiple Sclerosis (MS), working in collaboration with Dartmouth College. In this role, she has helped to develop patient decision aids to enable patients to better navigate between the many disease-modifying therapies (DMTs). She has a special interest in Quality Improvement of Healthcare, particularly the concept of SDM. She has discovered the potential SDM has, by incorporating patients into the medical-decision process, to improve outcomes, increase adherence, and reduce healthcare costs. Throughout her career as a nurse, she maintained passion to help new nurses hone their skills, both as a coworker and as a manager. At heart, she is an advanced practice nurse with a passion for providing excellent healthcare for individuals and their families.
