The first stage of my career journey found me working as a hospital pharmacist then going on to complete a PhD in gut pharmacology at Manchester University. I gained further experience in pharmaceutics and cancer therapeutics during a subsequent research fellow post at University College London. The pull of the North was strong though, so I returned to Manchester and joined a small team of scientists establishing a new contract research organisation (Cyprotex). Over the next six years, I set up cell-culture laboratories and ADMET screening assays at the company, whilst building up strong client relations in the UK and abroad. As a teenager, I had to choose between science and art at A-level. Of course, scientific research involves plenty of creative thinking and innovation, but I also wanted to make my mark in the arts. So began the second phase of my career when I left my role as a senior scientist to train as a glass-painter and establish my own business. Now, after 15 years designing and making glass art, I would like to return to a more academic environment and consolidate my skills in a research or communications role. Throughout my working life I have maintained my pharmacist registration and therefore a broad medical knowledge. I am comfortable interacting with people from all walks of life and able to adjust my communications approach to suit different situations and audiences. I’ve been ready for a while now for the third phase of my learning and professional practice and have lots of transferable skills from previous and current employment. I'm looking forward to connecting with like-minded people!
