Dr James Arkell studied medicine at Cambridge University and University College London. He went on to train in Psychiatry at The Maudsley and Royal Free Hospitals in London as well as gaining work experience abroad in Sydney, Australia and Hong Kong, China.In 2007 he was appointed NHS Consultant Psychiatrist in Kensington and Chelsea where he worked until very recently, gaining significant experience in treating the full range of psychiatric disorders including eating disorders. In his clinic, Dr Arkell offers cognitive behavioural therapy and has a specialist interest in eating disorders.Through working in both the private sector and NHS Dr. Arkell has experience in treating the full range of mental health problems from mild stress through to severe and enduring mental illness.Dr Arkell is interested in the interface of mental health and the arts, and sets up a number of events in locations such as the Almeida theatre.Dr Arkell holds an honorary contract at the Royal College of Art where he councils students. He has also been appointed as an honorary lecturer at Imperial College Medical School and provides support occupational health at The House of Commons and British Airways seeing pilots and MPs.
