I have worked in the field of Learning Disabilities throughout my professional career. This includes experience in long stay hospitals, residential and day centers, community teams and on an inpatient ward. I am committed to the profession of O. T. and it’s role in achieving real and positive change in the lives of people with Learning Disabilities. As an O. T. I have had the opportunity to develop many skills in the field of Learning disability - people with visual impairments, complex needs, profound physical disability, people who present behaviours that challenge and people with Learning Disability and a Mental Health diagnosis. Throughout my career a Sensory Integration framework has featured. I was lucky enough to have been trained by Jean Ayres early in my career I have attended Sensory Integration courses and used and training a variety of staff teams in the approach. This is one of my core skills. I started the OT Sensory Processing special interest group I now chair and administer the multi disciplinary Sensory Processing special interest group. I have carried out staff training to all levels of staff groups, support staff to Medical staff. Schools, NHS & care settings. My main interest is with people with the most complex needs. I have always been committed to carrying out supervision. I engage in a wide variety of reading from personal accounts of disability to academic texts, accessing books research articles and professional journals. Much of my career I have worked as an integral part of Multi disciplinary teams I've often spearheaded this approach, arranging & chairing multi disciplinary meetings, meeting with social services, education and voluntary agencies. I am committed to providing a high quality service & will work flexibly to achieve this for people using services. I have been shortlisted twice for a Q (quality) award once as an individual and once as a team, I have been nominated on a further 3 times team & individual
