Dr. Irina Shiyan graduated from the SUNY College of Optometry with a Doctorate Degree in 2008. She earned her undergraduate degree from NYU’s College of Arts and Science. After graduating, Dr. Shiyan became an integral part of a multi-specialty practice associated with Peninsula Hospital in Far Rockaway. From pediatrics to adult eye-care, Dr. Shiyan, in partnership with other doctors, provided a comprehensive range of ophthalmology and sub-specialty services. Dr. Shiyan also volunteers her time and expertise to charity organizations and events, offering free eye care and consultations to needy families and children. Some of these nonprofits include the Special Olympics, Big Brother Big Sister events and OneSight vision screenings. In 2010, Dr. Shiyan’s vision of a boutique-style eye care establishment that focused on personal attention, impeccable customer service and unsurpassed expertise was finally realized. Dr. Shiyan and a fellow Optometrist, Dr. Natan Dorfman, opened Village Eyecare in the heart of the East Village in NYC. This ideal location complimented Village Eyecare’s personable and friendly service. Dr. Shiyan and Dr. Dorfman are happy to offer a wide range of services and expertise to all East Village residents and visitors. When Dr. Shiyan is not seeing patients at Eyes on Second or volunteering at the many charity organizations or events she is a part of, she travels to exotic locations and supports local art and music organizations.
