I am a general lumenal gastroenterologist, having qualified in Medicine in Glasgow and undertaken training in Glasgow, Edinburgh and the USA. I practice in NHS Lothian, based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. My practice is broad, including most lumenal GI problems involving the oesophagus, stomach, intestines, pancreas and biliary tree. My main subspecialist interests are in Barrett's oesophagus, early cancer of the oesophagus and stomach, pancreatic disorders and endoscopic ultrasound procedures, as well as upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. I am currently Chair of British Society of Gastroenterology Endoscopy (BSGE) and Vice-president of the BSG. I am also a member of the American and European Societies of GI Endoscopy (ASGE and ESGE) and past Secretary of the Scottish Society of Gastroenterology (SSG). I am co-editor of Davidson's Principles and Practice of Medicine, a major international textbook.
