Dr Khakoo has been a Consultant in Paediatric/Childrens Asthma and Allergy and in Neonatal Medicine since 1996. He works at The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust and also as a longstanding consultant in the Department of Asthma and Allergy at St Marys Hospital, part of Imperial College Healthcare and a leading centre nationally for Childrens Allergy. He was between 2012 and 2019 Executive Medical Director and is currently also Professor of Clinical Education at Brunel University London.He has written book chapters, and published in peer reviewed journals on a number of allergy related topics, including urticaria and food allergy.
