I am a clinical academic surgeon by background and the Director of Global Engagement for Health Education England. I am accountable to the NHS for international ethical recruitment, the development of international placements and partnerships and workforce government to government partnerships. I have an National and International reputation for educational and workforce leadership, collaboration and innovation. I pioneered the development and lead the growth of the Universities Medical Assessment Partnership, starting as a collaboration of 5 Medical Schools which aimed to improve the quality and standards of medical assessments within the UK. Through managed growth, this partnership now includes all the medical schools within the UK and has been renamed the Medical Schools Council Assessment Alliance. This self-funding collaboration has had a major impact in improving standards of medical education within the UK. As a medical educationalist, I have held a number of senior administrative and leadership roles including Hospital Dean for Clinical Studies, and most recently Director of the University Hospital of South Manchester Health education Academy; an entirely novel vehicle for the delivery of healthcare education. I have lead the development of this academy from its inception working in partnership with numerous internal and external public and private stakeholders. In recognition of my contribution to medical education, I was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship; recognised as the highest UK award for education within the higher education community. I recently played a substantial part in the creation of the Greater Manchester Health Innovation and Education Cluster I was appointed DEQ for the North West of England in 2013 and for the North of England in 2014. I lead for HEE in Patient Safety, Public Health and Wellbeing, International education and Academic medicine. I have recently taken the position of National Director for Global Engagement for health Education England I have continued to maintain a substantial clinical (and teaching) commitment along side these activities.
