Dr.Kanakarajan is one the senior consultant's in Pain Medicine in Aberdeen, and has been involved in management of spinal pain, neuropathic pain, abdominal wall pain and spinal cord stimulation for over 15 years. He has a full Team in the private sector that reflects his NHS practice. This includes access to medications for pain management, pain injections, psychological support and pain management physiotherapy. He works closely with neurosurgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, gynaecologists, and general surgeons. Dr Kanakarajan qualified in 1993 and began his early postgraduate training in Anaesthesia in Mumbai, India. A move to UK enabled him to complete his specialist training in Anaesthesia in Birmingham School of Anaesthesia, West Midlands. His Pain Medicine training was complimented by dedicated fellowship at Walton Centre for Neurology & Neurosurgery, Liverpool. He was appointed as Consultant to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in 2007, where he developed the multidisciplinary services to chronic pain patients. Dr.Kanakarajan pioneered the technique of Ultrasound guided injections to the abdominal cutaneous nerves. He has organised over 6 cadaveric courses to teach various interventional pain management techniques, attracting international audience. He has more than 10 peer-review publications to his credit and actively participates in audit and pain research.
