I worked for Castlegate Pharmacy located on the Hospital and Health Centre Site in Cockermouth. My role was packed with variety, at large centred around Pharmaceutical Stocktaking. I was taken on as an Apprentice in January 2021 and worked on Castlegate and Derwent Surgery's Prescription Line until mid-April. Previous roles and responsibilities consisted of - Dealing with patient enquiries in-person and over the phone in a timely manner, receiving and responding to messages left on our Answer Machine, sending and receiving tasks on the EMIS system, navigating the EMIS system, working in partnership with the Doctors to add previously taken medication onto PMR's, (Patient Medication Records) booking patients in for appointments, printing prescriptions and diverting these to the correct chemists using Coding and Transit systems, building partnerships with external bodies (e.g., Securicare, Nutricia, B-Braun and local chemists etc) to provide patients with excellent quality care and handling and responding to paper, post and electronic prescription requests. My role as a Stock Specialist had seen a change in role from office-based to pharmacy, patient-facing based, all whilst keeping the Pharmacy's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in mind and reading these regularly to reinforce learning. The responsibilities I held were - ordering medication, dressings and Ostomy Products from our suppliers, checking stock levels and re-ordering when necessary, filling out Returns Documents/Invoices to send stock back to the Depot when required, managing and maintaining our BD Rowa Medicines Robot System, making sure the Shutdown Process is conducted at the same time each week to maximise efficiency, maintaining FIFO systems with stock and date-checking on a regular basis, disposing of obsolete drugs into DOOP bins, watching over the safe disposal of Sharps into the correct containers, bagging prescriptions up and sending these to the patient's houses or filing away into our Retrieval System, working on the front counter making sure to keep stock levels at the required amount and selling over-the-counter medicines asking the WWHAM questions prior to sale.
