Andrew Black was born in Manchester in the UK in 1950. He was educated at Winchester College and studied medicine at Edinburgh University. He worked in the National Health Service for 40 years (30 of these as a consultant psychiatrist) and he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Now that he has retired, he has more time for writing. He is interested in the nature of consciousness, and its relationship to the findings of modern physics. He is a keen amateur astronomer, astrologer and computer programmer. He enjoys foreign travel, walking, solving the Times crossword and playing contract bridge. He has published two books as an author.
