Dr Deven Patel qualified with distinction from the Middlesex Hospital (now UCLH), completing his cardiology training at the Royal Free, Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals. His sub-speciality is in the investigation and treatment of acute and chronic coronary artery disease and the assessssment of causes of chest pain and the use of CT coronary angiography at the forefront in diagnosis. He has been undertaking coronary angiography, intervention and stenting for over 28 years including complex interventions with calcium modification using rotablation, ultrasonic balloons and intracorornay imaging for optimisation. Dr Deven Patel’s experience in diagnostic coronary angiography exceeds 20,000 cases and in coronary stenting over 4,000 cases. He no longer implants pacing devices. As a general cardiologist he has extensive expertise in the management of hypertension, atrial fibrillation, valvular heart disease and heart failure. He takes a holistic approach to risk prevention looking at life-style changes, weight reduction, as much as the use of approved drug therapies. His research interests have been in the investigation and risk assessment of patients with chest pain syndromes, in coronary intervention and in the use of CT coronary angiography. Outside of work and a happy family life, post pandemic he has taken up golf and still enjoys skiing including off-piste, trekking and playing tennis.
