Hi, I'm Colin, a senior product manager with over 15 years of experience building software applications, with over 5 years working directly in product leadership. I have also co-founded a startup, which was acquired in 2019 I have significant expertise across Product Management, Engineering and DevOps best practices. This enables me to take products from zero to one through early customer discovery and development. I also help guide teams on best practices to ensure they can iterate and deliver quickly. After over 10 years of working in startups, I know what is required to successfully drive towards a vision despite strong headwinds. --- Product Innovation --- I've relied on data and customer feedback to drive product innovation throughout my career. I have been heavily involved in customer research and discovery using prototypes and customer interviews. User research is a challenging but rewarding experience for discovering new point points and underserved needs. --- Product Delivery --- I have found communication is critical for successful product delivery. As such, I use multiple tools. - Product narratives: to communicate the vision for the product, the customer and the problems we are trying to solve. - Prioritised Roadmaps: high-level internal and external roadmaps to communicate upcoming features, benefits, and reasons for prioritisation. - Backlogs and feature specification: A detailed definition of the problem and functionality we are trying to serve so that the team can operate efficiently and make the appropriate technical decisions. --- Product strategy --- When managing products, I work closely with senior leadership to define and prioritise product updates to be more impactful for the business. This also involved working with other product teams to align our backlogs. I also have experience working on product pricing problems when releasing new products as part of a portfolio. --- Technical skills --- - Back-end development: Ruby Rails projects, including building an invoice tracking and job management solution for small businesses. I have built many backend APIs and data processing services in Node JS and Python, from responding to client-side web requests to streaming data from messaging queues. - Front-end development: React and Stimulus JS - DevOps: I am experimenting with managing, deploying and debugging my SaaS application on Linux and Docker - Distributed systems: building and scaling out software services when they reach critical bottlenecks in performance or cost.
