Description

When I reflect on my career journey, I realize that my passion for pharmacy was ignited at a young age. At just 13, I already had a clear vision of my future. I remember enthusiastically presenting my career choice in the 8th grade, and every trip to the grocery store reinforced my desire to work behind the pharmacy counter and wear that white coat. With a natural aptitude for mathematics and a genuine curiosity for science, I knew that a career as a pharmacist was my calling. My commitment to this path was evident throughout high school and university. I meticulously planned my academic journey, taking advanced AP courses to expedite my progress and swiftly completing the prerequisites for my graduate degree program in only two years. Upon being accepted into my desired program, I graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, proudly maintaining a 4.0 GPA. I secured a job even before graduation, a testament to my dedication to this profession. My ascent in the field was swift. Within the dynamic environment of long-term care, I became a go-to resource for technicians and fellow pharmacists, offering guidance on complex computer programs and medication-related inquiries. I embraced each new responsibility with adaptability, mastering the dosing of medications like vancomycin, proficiently monitoring INR levels, and efficiently managing prior authorizations for our contracted physicians. Over my three-year tenure at Red Rock Pharmacy, I continued to progress, reaching a point where further advancement within long-term care would necessitate a shift into management. Life brought about changes, including the opportunity to relocate to England due to my husband's job. This move provided the perfect backdrop for me to evaluate my career path and identify the most rewarding aspects of my profession. One of the most gratifying aspects of my role as a long-term care pharmacist was conducting medication reviews for skilled nursing residents. This vulnerable population often grappled with unnecessary polypharmacy, and pharmacists like myself were frequently consulted to pinpoint potential adverse drug reactions. My passion for problem-solving and analyzing intricate scenarios found an ideal outlet in this capacity. As I explored career options in the UK, I stumbled upon the intriguing field of pharmacovigilance and drug safety. With newfound enthusiasm, I've set my sights on my next career chapter: becoming a pharmacovigilance associate. I invite you to join me on this exciting journey and help me achieve my goals.
