London, United Kingdom
I treasure my various professional roles and the development opportunities that come with them. My background is that of a consultant in children's eye health, eye alignment and brain/eye/vision problems in both children and adults, and I continue to provide NHS clinics at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and Bedford. Clinical management training has enabled me to take up the role of director of the children's service at Moorfields from 2019-2022, and then that of divisional director for our services in central London since autumn 2022. I also have a keen interest in research for and with children, focussing on common eye/vision conditions: slowing down the progression of short-sightedness, and improving the management of amblyopia ("lazy eye"). As paediatric clinical trials lead, I am involved in commercial and non-commercial trials of new medications and devices. Making the voice of children and young people heard when it comes to service planning/delivery and research is another passion. I have co-founded and co-facilitate both the award-winning Young People's Advisory Group for Research at Moorfields and our Young People's Forum. Lately, I have co-developed and co-present workshops about eye health and careers in the NHS in secondary schools in and around London, to open up opportunities for young people considering their training options after school.
