As an emergency care pharmacist, I am responsible for providing timely and appropriate pharmaceutical care to patients who require immediate attention due to emergency medical conditions. I work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals in across A&E and the acute medical units to ensure the safe and effective use of medications in emergency situations. My Duties and Responsibilities: • Respond promptly to emergency situations, triage patients and assess their medication needs • Review patient charts and medication history to identify potential drug interactions, allergies, or other contraindications • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualised treatment plans • Facilitate the supply of medications to the department, both for emergency clinical use and patient discharge • Provide patient education on medication use, side effects, and other pertinent information • Participate in medication reconciliation and discharge planning to ensure continuity of care • Maintain accurate records of patient medication orders, dispensing, and administration • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in emergency care pharmacy practice and maintain continuing education requirements • Assist in developing policies and procedures related to emergency care pharmacy practice My Qualifications and Attributes: • A first-class degree in pharmacy (MPharm) • Licensed as a registered pharmacist with the GPhC • Experience in emergency care pharmacy and previous rotational roles • Knowledge of emergency medicine, critical care, general medicine, surgery, haematology and oncology and technical services (involving GMP and special manufacturing under section 10 of the Medicines Act 1968) • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to work under pressure and make quick, informed, evidence-based decisions • Strong attention to detail and accuracy • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays From my experience, I have an excellent understanding of health economics and am skilled in recommending cost-effective treatments based on local and national guidance.
