Description

Dr Aashish Vyas, has been consultant Respiratory Physician since 2003. Within the NHS he is lead of NHSE commissioned regional severe asthma and complex breathlessness Unit for Lancashire and South Cumbria, as well as leading NHSE Regional Long term mechanical ventilation and complex wean services for Lancashire and South Cumbria. His primary interests are asthma, complex or undiagnosed breathlessness and supporting patients on home mechanical ventilation. He looks after patients with a multitude of chest conditions in his NHS work including COPD, chronic Cough, respiratory recovery from infections. He has multiple National roles including: Lead North West consultant at the UK severe asthma registry. British Thoracic Society executive council member Member of the British Thoracic Society Research and Scientific Committee. Dr Vyas’ Private practice supports patients with asthma, difficult to manage or undiagnosed breathlessness, chronic cough and COPD, respiratory recovery from infection, recurrent lung infections, including COVID infections. He also runs an Elite Breathlessness clinic for athletes, ‘weekend warriors’ and people who have exercise related breathlessness which is out of keeping with their level of fitness. The aim of the Elite breathlessness clinic is to diagnose, support performance improvement and treat optimally any underlying issues causing breathlessness. The ethos of the private practice is to support patients have improved control of the respiratory wellbeing in the most effective and holistic way. Using a combination of personal interaction and diagnostic technology (including assessment of lung biomechanics with lung physiology testing and understanding underlying lung inflammation causing breathlessness via analysis of inflammatory lung biomarkers) to help understand symptoms causation and management. The aim of the care process is to ‘put that which is wrong’ as best is possible using treatment which include, therapies such a physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, psychology and medication where and as necessary. The individual is put at the centre of the care process which often relies on a multidisciplinary approach to support the best outcome centred around the individuals main goals in health.
