I have been a qualified pharmacist with Boots UK for over 27 years and have held various roles within the company. My current role allows me to work in various stores that present different challenges and development needs as well as working in care homes. I enjoy the challenge of being able to support stores and people in achieving their goals and this also allows scope for self-development in other areas of the business. My role in the care homes is to work collaboratively with store care homes teams and care home managers to ensure safe supply and use of medicines by carrying out pharmacist advice visits. In addition to providing advice on safe and secure medicines handling, the visit provides a focus on patient safety as well as optimising pharmaceutical care of the patients. Over the years I have completed various training courses which have enabled me to take on a more clinical role within stores. I am trained to provide essential NHS services like NMS (New Medicines Service), DMS (Discharge Medicines Service), Emergency Hormonal Contraception, Supervised Consumption, the Hypertension Case Finding Service and more recently Pharmacy First. This service also enables me to complete episodes of care for 7 common conditions following defined clinical pathways. I am also trained to provide various Boots private services such as the Cystitis test and treat service, and run private vaccination clinics such as Flu, Pneumonia, Chicken Pox, Meningitis B, HPV and the Boots travel vaccines and malaria prevention service. More recently I completed the Independent Pharmacist prescribing course and I have been regularly working as part of the Independent Medical Agency (IMA) with a team of pharmacist independent prescribers to further enhance my skills by taking on a prescribing role. I am a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
